Bata
Marianov's archaic, rough structures represent a remarkable synthesis of
hand-made tradition. The firm cut in these sculptures expresses the psychological
plasticity and the inclination of both the artist and his nation (Romania)
towards the epic. He retrieves the primeval form and loads with a mythical
mean the scientific and technical constructions, or our humble tools, thus
transforming them into solemn structures and quasi religious monuments.
ANTONIO FACCIO
ART CRITIC, (ITALY) |
A genuine wood sculptor, impelled by an inner craving and thorough knowledge
of his material which is such an intrinsic part of Romanian peasant life.
In his first period, while respecting the massive bulk and verticality
of the tree trunk, he uses his inventive powers to puzzle out and more
forcibly express the inner most tensions of forms. |
